Subway Trains Collide in Manhattan, Causing Derailment, M.T.A. Says
Two trains collided near the 96th Street subway station in Manhattan on Thursday afternoon, causing one of them to derail, the authorities said.
A northbound 1 train was carrying passengers when it collided with another train around 3 p.m., officials said.
It was not immediately clear whether anyone was injured. Nor was it clear which train derailed and what caused the crash.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority confirmed in a social media post that a train had derailed near 96th Street, and that service would be suspended “while emergency teams assist passengers.”
This is a developing story and will be updated.
