Two Missouri residents were charged with murder in the shooting that erupted after the Super Bowl parade in Kansas City, Mo., last week, Jean Peters Baker, the Jackson County prosecutor, announced on Tuesday.
The men, Dominic Miller and Lyndell Mays, began arguing as the rally dispersed, the authorities said, a dispute that quickly escalated when both men pulled out guns and began firing at each other. A bystander was killed by the gunfire.
The charges were announced nearly a week after the Super Bowl celebration in Kansas City last Wednesday that left one woman dead and 22 people injured, including nine children.
Both of the men facing murder charges were wounded by gunfire and remain hospitalized. Prosecutors said more arrests were possible.
The shooting unfolded at the end of a parade that drew tens of thousands of jubilant Kansas City Chiefs fans to the downtown area.
As the rally concluded, gunshots were heard near Union Station, and hundreds of people — including families with small children — fled the scene in panic.
Two days after the shooting, two teenagers were charged with resisting arrest and “gun-related” offenses. The teenagers have not been publicly identified and could eventually be tried as adults after a judicial process that can take days or weeks to decide how they should be tried.
Elizabeth Galvan, 43, a D.J. and radio host, who was also known as Lisa Lopez-Galvan, was killed in the parade shooting.
